We had a great turnout for our Market Season Launch. It's going to be a wonderful season!

In case you are a vendor who missed the fun, or an interested Market Supporter, you can get the rules and regulations, required documents, your own farm sign, and more on our For Vendors page. If you have additional questions, you can definitely contact us.

Some big news we shared with our vendors at the meeting was our co-sponsorship of a Farm Food Safety training on May 28 in Cedarville. We hope that this service to our community will provide valuable information to producers of food, whether they are Market vendors (yet) or not.

You've bought or swapped some seeds, started your seedlings, planned your planting dates, and now you're ready to start thinking about the wonderful mornings selling in the park. Come learn about updated regulations, meet other vendors, and find out what else is new about this year's market season.

We'll be meeting in Cedarville  at the Community Church right next to the park from 10:00 am till noon on Saturday, April 25. We are really looking forward to seeing you there, but if you miss it, please contact us after the meeting for the most up to date vendor packet. Likewise, if you have any questions for us that you'd like answered at the meeting, please let us know in advance so that we can do any research necessary to find an answer for you.

Happy New Year, everyone! It's not too early to get involved in this year's Surprise Valley Saturday Market activities! No matter how you want to be involved or how much time you have, we've got a spot for you! Please take a look at the volunteer positions and let us know what you're interested in - and feel free to spread the word! Just click here for a list of position descriptions!

Cedarville Park will be the site of our community's Harvest Party on Saturday morning, October 18 and we would love for you to join us! Great produce, cottage foods, crafts, fine art, cheese, poultry and more! Come see your favorite vendors and thank them for their hard work this year, and take home delicious food, gorgeous handiwork, and the experience of a perfect fall day in beautiful Surprise Valley!

We got some amazing "Kids-n-Veggies" photos, and the voting was hot and heavy at the September 20 market.  If you missed the photos, look for all of them soon on our Facebook page. The winning photographer, Dolores Navarro, collects $25 in Market Bucks for this adorable picture of her apple-eating daughter. Congratulations Dolores, and all of our photographers! We enjoyed seeing the fun pictures.

Capture memories of this summer and $25 to spend at the Market by entering the Kids-n-Veggies Photo Contest! There are few things more adorable or photogenic than a kid in the garden, and everyone who enters is a winner because in a few months when the snow is flying and the kids are growing up so fast, they will have a photo that reminds them of this beautiful season.  In addition, photographers will have the chance to win $25 to spend at the Market. The contest is open to photographers of all ages, and winners will be chosen by "people's choice" at the September 20 Market. Here are the rules:

  1. Original photos of one or more kids under 13 years old with fruits or vegetables are eligible.
  2. Veggies can be growing, just picked, raw, canned, or cooked.
  3. Photos must be at least 5x7” and not bigger than 8x10” and must have been taken in the last 12 months. Black and white or color are eligible.
  4. Photos are due to Market managers by September 10, 2014.
  5. Photos will be displayed and voted on at the September 20 Market. Anyone over 2 years of age may vote. Each voter will get two votes to use in any way they want.
  6. The winner or winners by People's Choice will receive a $25 credit to be spent at any booth at the Surprise Valley Saturday Market through October 18, 2014
  7. Anyone is eligible to enter. Photos may be used by SVSM for website, print publicity, or Facebook page. Photos will be available to the photographers to pick up after the voting ends on September 20

If you have any questions, please drop by the Market Booth, email SVSaturdayMarket@gmail.com, or call 249-3202 or 640-1935.

Surprise Valley Saturday Market is now authorized to accept WIC and Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program checks. Recipients receive $20 in checks each year that can only be used at Certified Farmers Markets. This will be the first time these checks have ever been distributed in Modoc County because we are the first and only Certified Farmers Market in Modoc County!
These checks can only be used for fresh fruit, vegetables, and cut herbs (WIC and Seniors) and honey (Seniors only).
This is a big step for us because it is working towards our mission: A place where all members of the community can connect directly with local producers of healthy food and handcrafted goods, while enjoying a morning in the park.
